We explored the souk in the Medina(and got lost), visited some museums and took a tour of the tanneries.

Madagascar, a world apart (April 2000) : Madagascar is the world's fourth largest island (the size of France and Benelux together)and if you are limited in time, the best way to get around is by plane. The wildlife is very unique but unfortunately, very endangered. Our friend George spent a lot of time in Ranomafana National Park and Berenty. To learn more about lemurs, check his site: http://info.bio.sunysb.edu/rano.biodiv/index.html
In 2000, we met George in Madagascar and we focused our trip on the Eastern part of the island.
We visited 3 nature reserves and 1 National Park.
Description of our itineary: 1)Central part of the island: Drive from the capital Antananarivo (or Tana)to Perinet Reserve (Andasibe in Malagasy) to hear the indri and to visit the new National Park of Mantady. Then, drive to Tamatave to visit the Duke Primate Center's lemur rehabilitation and relocation project (Parc d'Ivoloina). 2)A little more north: Flight to Maroantsetra, a city close to the Masola Peninsula (the largest remaining area of coastal/lowland rainforest on Madagascar). The next day, we did an excursion by boat on the island reserve of Nosy Mangabe where at night, you can see the rarest lemur called Aye-aye. 3)Northern part: Flight to Diego Suarez to visit Montagne d'Ambre National Park (North of Madagascar) 4)Southern part: Flight to Fort Dauphin and drive to Berenty Private Reserve, the best-known reserve.
