Million Dollar Highway (Ouray-Silverton), Nov 2007 : The Million Dollar Highway is a 12 mile portion of the San Juan Skyway between Silverton and Ouray. This area of the San Juan Mountains are referred to as "The Switzerland of America".
The origin of the name Million Dollar Highway is disputed. There are several legends of its origin from "it cost a million dollars a mile" to build in the 1920's to it contains "a million dollars" in gold ore in the fill dirt.

From Silverton, we rode our mountain bikes on the Alpine Loop Ride (only a short portion was open in November).
