Street Skills clinic in Spanish @Kitson (April 2013) : This Spring, the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition offered a Street Skills clinic in Spanish at Kitson. Eight five employees reviewed their rights & responsibilities as a cyclist riding on the road (respect traffic laws, be visible, be predictable and maintain a bike in working condition). Thank you to Mariangelica who did a wonderful presentation in Spanish and left enough time for questions.

LCI Training seminar in Santa Monica (Sept 2012) : In September 2012, my friend Ron Durgin generously invited 3 candidates from Santa Barbara to be part of the LCI training seminar that he organized in Santa Monica. They got a chance to use the new Bike Campus along the beach and to visit the new Bike Center. I am amazed by the infrastructure in Santa Monica (good bike lanes, excellent signage, bike parking...) Next is a bike share program... http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/09/santa-monica-gets-500000-grant-to-expand-bike-share-program.html Since it was L.A.'s 'Carmageddon" week-end, I decided to ride from Santa Monica to UCLA, cross the empty & quiet 405 and along Sunset Blvd to Pacific Palisades. Street Skills Clinics: City of Goleta (June 2012) : MaryJo Alonzo, Management Assistant for the City of Goleta has been promoting the use of a bike for short errands and exercise. For the second time this year, she recruited a group of 12 participants who were interested in attending a 2 hour Street Skills clinic taught by certified League Cycling Instructors from the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition. Instruction was based on the curriculum of Traffic Skills 101 from the League of American Bicyclists. It included: understanding rights & responsibilities as a driver operating a bicycle safely and legally on public roadways, developing the ability to identify unsafe traffic situations, learning good bike handling skills and practicing hazards and crash avoidance techniques in order to become a more confident cyclist. Street Skills (City of Goleta): Jan 2012 : Exciting news! The City of Goleta purchased a fleet of bikes for their employees to use. In order to review legal rights, practice handling skills and build confidence on a bike, a group of city employees took two Street Skills clinics offered by the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition & Traffic Solutions. MaryJo Alonzo who is promoting the use of a bike for short errands and exercise said: "This class was exactly what we needed. It was informative and FUN!
